The newspaper reported “The following gentlemen witnessed the experiment: Drs. Paula Souza, Gabriel Dias da Silva, Segismundo Bergen, Pedro Borges, d’Ottolini, J. Miranda, manager of the Telephone Company, Dr. Tibagy, employees of the National Telegraph, Sá Rocha, of the Paulista Post Office, Augusto Barjona, of the State of São Paulo, and a representative of this newspaper.” According to the book ‘Padre Landell: The Brazilian who invented wireless’, page 64, by Hamilton Almeida, Dr. Paula Souza was Antônio Francisco de Paula Souza (1843-1917), founder and director of “Escola Politécnica de São Paulo.” Research in newspapers of the time suggests that Gabriel was a lawyer and businessman. Pedro was also a businessman and Tibagy an engineer.
